Barbara Brubaker
Barbara Brubaker has taught high school art for over 40 years, winning awards and accolades through the years. She has taught Intro to Art, Photography 1-4, Ceramics, Sculpture, Drawing, Portfolio for Independent Study, and AP Studio Art. Barbara’s exceptional art program brought presenters from SCAD, Ringling, SVA, The Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale and Palm Beach Photographic Workshops to advise and present college level lessons to her advanced art students. Barbara and students attended workshops at University of Florida and Miami Art Institute. Her students have been accepted to Carnegie Mellon for Art and Computer Science, RIT for Photography, Ringing for Illustration and Computer Animation, and SCAD for Photography.
With over 150 students a year, Barbara has been able to share her love of art with many students continuing to study with her for all 4 years. As a teacher, Barbara pushes each student to work hard and push beyond their own expectations.
She worked as an art administrator at Palm Beach County School District, regularly presenting to arts teachers and classroom teachers on arts integration. She was asked to be the Director of 2D Art at Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach FL and the Director of Palm Beach & Martin Counties Regional Scholastic Arts Awards for 2 years. Barbara enjoys working with artists, teachers to select exceptional art created by students in the area. A regular Armory Art Center workshop presenter for Palm Beach Schools Fine Arts Teachers in collaborating with the Norton Museum of Art.
Barbara is an Advanced Placement Studio Arts Reader. Invited to apply, Barbara works with 150 high school and college art teachers to score AP Studio Art Exams from around the country for over eight years. Networking is a benefit of working together as they learn the expectations students need to achieve. They are trained to score student art in unison with the other 150 art readers.
Barbara is an exhibiting artist, working in photography, sculpture and mixed media. Barbara holds a BA in Arts Education from the University of Maryland. With additional courses at George Washington University and Palm Beach State College. Starting her career in Charles County, MD, she moved to Palm Beach County, FL and earned National Board Certification in Art. Barbara received the 2004 High School Art Educator, Career Service Award 2019 and Retired Teacher of the Year 2022 from Florida Art Education Association.
