Lisa Shmaraeva
Lisa Shmaraeva, a multifaceted artist and educator based in Seattle, her personal practice includes both traditional fine art including painting, drawing and illustration, and the dynamic world of film. Her educational experience includes working as both an art teacher and a theater and drama coach for middle and high-school aged students.
Lisa has two areas of expertise: helping film students craft and edit their short films for portfolios, and working with emerging artists to learn the fundamental skills they need to build a strong portfolio.
When she works with film students she knows that schools are looking for good storytelling and symbolism. They’re looking for continuity within the film and the heroes journey, students who break the 180 degree rule. She also has a minor in Sound Design and Editing and loves helping students in post production as well.
Lisa also enjoys working with emerging artists, not merely as an instructor but as a guide who paves the way for students to discover their artistic selves. She works closely with ARTriculate’s students to help them craft portfolio pieces that resonate with the artist’s soul and gently nudges them to courageously learn new skills and mediums. She encourages them to make their art unmistakably theirs, while honoring strong artistic and technical elements of creation, paying close attention to the fundamentals and details in their work.
Lisa received her BFA in Film, Cinema, and Video Studies from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), with a minor in Sound Design and Editing, allowing her to draw from a wide range of media as she teaches students.
